2 illegal Egyptian migrants dead, 23 arrested

Two people died in a chase between the Egyptian Coast Guard and two Italy-bound fishing boats carrying migrants across the Mediterranean.

Security services announced Tuesday morning that they discovered an attempted illegal immigration to Italy by more than 100 Egyptians. The migrants were departing from the coastal city Rashid, Beheira.

The migrants sailed as far as three miles before the boats capsized. Twenty-three people were arrested, while some others managed to flee. Some of the migrants fell into the waters near Berket Ghalyoun.

Those who were arrested are being interrogated over the network responsible for their transportation, while the search survivors in the sea continues.
