20 more Bedouin detainees released

The Interior Ministry decided to release another 20 Bedouin detainees on Monday, as promised by Interior Minister Habib el-Adly in his meeting with Sinai Bedouin tribal leaders last week.

The minister had promised tribal leaders that security measures would be eased at various checkpoints in Sinai and arrests would no longer be carried out merely on the basis suspicion.

In return, el-Adly asked the tribes to cooperate with the ministry in protecting this strategic region.

Security sources say the ministry will release more detainees in a few days after studying their files, a decision which tribal leaders have welcomed.
