5 defendants sentenced to 15-years in prison for burning student to death

Banha Criminal Court sentenced on Monday each of five defendants, including two students, to 15 years in prison for throwing nitric acid at a student and setting him on fire, killing him as they forcibly robbed him in Khanka city, Qaliubiya governorate.

The incident occurred at the end of 2017, when Abdallah Galal, head of the Criminal Investigation Department of Banha, received a communication from passersby who found a burnt body on the street.

Investigations revealed that the body belonged to Yasser al-Sayed, an 18-year-old student. According to investigations, the five defendants beat the victim before throwing nitric acid at him and setting fire to his body when he attempted to resist robbery.

The defendants were then detained and brought to trial.
