80% of Egyptians book holidays through smartphone applications: official

 

Nearly 80 percent of Egyptians book for their holidays through smartphone applications according to Mohamed Farouk, chairman of the e-tourism committee at the Chamber of Tourism Companies.

Egypt is trying to keep pace with the technological changes that have quickly developed , he added.

Farouk told Al-Masry Al-Youm that 90 percent of the volume of tourism within the United States is through the Internet, and 43 percent comes through smart phone applications. He added that in most of world nowadays people depend on either smartphones or computers for tourism purposes, and stressed Egypt must adapt to that.

The e-tourism committee met to discuss ways to take advantage of Egypt’s human resources in information technology to build services and systems that can help online reservations, he said.

The board of directors of the Chamber of Tourism Companies will hold a meeting with operators of the digital portal “Misr al-Aalam” (Egypt the World) soon.
