Adly trial over illicit gains charges adjourned to 18 September

Cairo Criminal Court adjourned Thursday the trial of Mubarak-era Interior Minister Habib al-Adly over illicit gains worth LE181 million to 18 September 2014.

The Illicit Gains Authority has referred Adly to a criminal trial and accused him of gaining wealth incommensurate with his legitimate source of income by abusing his post.

The indictment mentioned that Adly has made wealth estimated at over LE181 million between August 1961 and until the end of January 2011, taking advantage of his posts as head of the State Security Investigations Service and as an interior minister.

Adly was acquitted Thursday of profiteering and money laundering charges, involving sums worth LE5 million.

In March, the Court of Appeals had canceled a verdict that sentenced Adly to 12 years behind bars.
