Allowance for Egypt’s postgraduate trainee doctors rises to LE2,200

Finance Minister Mohamed Maait announced that the monthly allowance provided to postgraduate trainee doctors at university hospitals, affiliated to hospitals of the Higher Education Ministry and Al-Azhar University, will now be LE2,200 instead of LE400.

The decision will be applied starting from the December 2019 batch, he added, pointing out that the number of doctors that this applied to is 12,000.

The decision will cost the state LE320 million a year, he said.

Egypt’s political leadership attaches great importance to supporting the health sector by improving the financial conditions of workers, doctors, and nursing staff and the quality of health care services provided to citizens.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday increased the monthly infection risk allowance for medical professionals by 75 percent, at a total cost of about LE2.25 billion.

Sisi also ordered the establishment of a risk fund for healthcare workers in hospitals across the country.

The decision includes physicians working at university hospitals.

The minimum infection risk allowance was raised from LE400 to LE700 and the maximum from LE700 to LE1,225, according to Maait.
