Presidential hopeful Amr Moussa renewed calls for withdrawing Egypt's ambassador in Tel Aviv until Israel apologizes for violating Egyptian borders and killing five security personnel.
On Saturday Moussa said on Twitter that Israel needs to understand that recent developments in the Middle East have led to core changes in policies towards Israel.
Moussa added that Turkey's decision on Friday to expel its Israeli ambassador came at the right moment.
Turkey suspended military agreements with Israel and reduced diplomatic representation to second secretary level because Israel has refused to apologize for its May 2010 attack on the Freedom Flotilla 2.
The Israeli navy attacked a Gaza-bound flotilla that carried humanitarian aid for Gazans, killing eight Turkish nationals and a Turkish-American, as well as injuring a dozen other passengers.
Egyptian newspapers hailed the Turkish decision and implicitly encouraged Egypt to make a similar step in response to the killing of five Egyptian security personnel in Sinai on 19 August.
Following the shootings, dozens of Egyptian activists staged week-long protests in front of the Israeli Embassy to call for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador.
