Annual Suez Canal revenue up 7.1% in October

Annual revenue generated by Egypt's Suez Canal increased by 7.1 percent in October, Suez Canal Authority officials announced on Tuesday.

In a statement , authority officials went on to note that the canal’s October revenue stood at US$427.3 million compared to US$398.9 million in October 2009, representing an increase of US$28.4 million.

The authority also stated that the total number of vessels crossing the canal had increased by 4.1 percent during the first ten months of this year,  compared to the same ten-month period the year before. The canal also enjoyed a 15.2-percent increase in net tonnage for the same period, according to the statement.

The canal authority went on to note that the first ten months of 2010 had seen an 11.4-percent revenue increase, reaching a total of US$3.9 billion compared to US$3.5 billion during the same period in 2009.
