April 6 Youth gain minister’s agreement on police monitoring

The April 6 Youth Movement on Sunday announced that it has reached an agreement with Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy allowing social participation in monitoring police performance to help prevent potential violations.

The statement said a meeting will be held next week between the Interior Minister and a delegation from Egyptian rights groups in order to facilitate the agreement.

The movement mentioned the lack of trust between the ministry and activists, as well as the security failure in some areas. It said the only way to restore confidence is trying police officers involved in torture and killing protesters.

The minister and head of the public relations department at the ministry reviewed plans to counter thuggery and security failures. Meanwhile, officials at the ministry said they would not tolerate violations by officers, and claimed they forward all complaints to the general prosecution for investigation.
