Assiut military court to resume trial of 96 MB supporters

A military court in Assiut will resume Tuesday the trial of 96 Muslim Brotherhood supporters over charges of storming and burning the Banque Misr headquarters in Deir Mowas, south Minya governorate, during a wave of protests that followed the dispersal of Rabaa al-Adaweya and al-Nahda sit-ins in mid-August 2013.

The court will listen Tuesday to eyewitnesses and some of the defendants.

Assassinated top prosecutor Hesham Barakat referred the defendants to a military trial in February 2015.

The defendants face charges of attacking public facilities and inciting demonstrations and violence against the Armed Forces and police.
