Autistic child honored for memorizing Quran in full

An autistic kid has been honored by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for memorizing the Holy Quran during a traditional annual celebration by the Endowments Ministry Tuesday.

Ahmed Ibrahim al-Watany, who ranked first among other contestants, was the youngest recipient of honorary shields and financial awards during the celebration, receiving a LE10,000 prize.

At his residence in Gharbiya, Watany told Al-Masry Al-Youm he enjoyed the ceremony, revealing that he memorized each of the holy book’s 6,236 verses by number.

His father said helping Ahmed memorize the Holy Quran within one year in defiance of autism was a tremendous task, adding that his son, a fifth-grader, had received similar awards in Egypt and Saudi Arabia for his strong memorization skills.
