Beni Suef train driver, watchman in custody pending investigations

Beni Suef prosecution has taken into custody Omar Hassan Ragab, the driver of the Beni Suef train, and Ahmed Mohamed Nasef, a train watchman, for four days pending investigations into the Beni Suef train accident.

Upper Egypt and Delta train traffic in Assiut resumed Thursday afternoon after being halted for eight hours to remove debris from the accident.

The train, a trailer dragging two other wagons coming from Aswan on its way to Cairo, derailed at a stop near Beni Suef’s city of Nasser, hitting a reinforced concrete block next to the rails.

Seventy people were wounded in the accident, 58 of whom have left the hospital, according to the Health Ministry.
