Bomb in Pakistani mosque kills 25

A bomb exploded inside a Pakistani mosque in the volatile northwest during weekly prayers on Friday, killing at least 25 people and trapping others under the debris, a local official said.

"The death toll is now 25," local administration official Gul Jamal Khan told Agence France-Presse.

"There were more than 100 people inside the mosque. The roof of its main hall collapsed after the blast. Several people are buried under the debris."

The blast occurred in Darra Adam Khel, an area near Pakistan's tribal regions where Taliban-led militants have been active.

Its target was a Sunni Muslim mosque and the worshippers gathered there on Friday afternoon, the most attended prayer session of the week, said Saeed Khan, a local government official.

Investigators were trying to determine if a suicide bomber was involved, Khan said.
