CAF fines Zamalek FC president $40,000 and bans him from football for a year

 

The Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) on Saturday banned president of Zamalek FC Mortada Mansour from engaging in any football activity, after his criticism of CAF officials.

Mansour defamed Ahmed Ahmed, chairman of CAF, and Amr Fahmy, Secretary General of CAF. Mansur’s comments followed Ahly’s and Horoya’s match at the Champions League, during which Mansour was harassed by Al-Ahly fans.

“Where is the African Union? What happened? What did you do after we were cursed by some fans in the stands?” Mansour said in a video on Zamalek’s official website.

CAF issued an decision to ban Mansour from any kind of football related activity (administrative, sports or otherwise) for a period of one year, alongside a fine of US $40,000.

A statement from the CAF said that the member association will immediately inform the Zamalek FC and ensure that this sanction is adhered to failing, which the Committee reserves the right to investigate and sanction the Zamalek club.
