Cairo-Alex road blocked following car crash

Traffic came to a stop Sunday on the Cairo-Alexandria road near Qalyubiya after a truck and private car collided.

Security, traffic officers and ambulances moved to the scene to remove the aftermath of the crash and rescue the injured.

Egypt has one of the world's highest traffic-related mortality rates.

In a recent report, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said the number of car accidents during the first half of 2015 rose by 3.5 percent with a total of 6,916 accidents, compared with 6,685 accidents in the same period of 2014. It said deaths, however, decreased by 2.7 percent, from 3,025 to 2,808 deaths during the first half of 2015.

Traffic accidents are usually blamed on poor driving and bad road conditions.
