Cairo bridge collapses, killing at least 4

A bridge collapse south of Cairo on Wednesday killed at least four workers, according to Egyptian state-owned media.

The news agency MENA reported four workers died in the accident, which occurred at a bridge under construction in Maadi, while state TV reported five died.

Rescue teams rushed to the site of the crash to remove the wreckage and pull the bodies out of the water.

A few hours ago, Maadi residents reported hearing loud noises, which some people attributed to the bridge collapse.

Meanwhile, residents from other areas have said they heard explosion-like sounds as well.

However, Egyptian state TV reported that Cairo Security chief Mohsen Mourad said a plane broke the sound barrier over Cairo, producing the sounds. He said the incident has not led to any losses.
