Cairo court reduces sentence of Egyptian singer Shyma to 1 yr in prison over music video

A Cairo misdemeanor appeals court handed down a reduced one-year prison sentence to Egyptian female pop singer Shyma, after filming a music video considered by authorities to be sexually suggestive.

The video, entitled “Andee Zeroof” (I Have Issues) proved highly controversial and left some Egyptians wildly displeased, with some launching verbal attacks against the video’s content.

In December, she was initially sentenced to two years in prison for ‘inciting debauchery and immorality,” and a fine of LE10,000.

The case was appealed by Shyma.

The director of the music video received the same sentence.

In November, Shyma apologized for the video in a Facebook post, saying she did not expect such a backlash.
