Cairo hospital ceiling collapses on ICU due to poor maintenance

A private company conducting maintenance at the Nasser Institute Hospital north of Cairo has caused a section of the hospital’s ceiling to collapse on the ICU.

Maintenance workers were performing an insulation test by soaking the ceiling with water, but the test went awry and part of the ceiling fell into the room.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, a spokesperson for the Health Ministry, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that a police complaint was filed against the company. The floor on which the incident took place was evacuated.

Ghaffar gave his assurances that patients who were in the room in question were all fine, stressing that the section that had fallen was too small to hurt anyone.
