Classrooms empty on first day of school

Schools were empty of teachers and students on the first school day after the Eid vacation, while students were seen in public parks and in the zoo.

“The teachers left when they saw no students in the classrooms,” said a teacher at an experimental school.

His colleague said it made no sense to go back to school just for one day after a six-day holiday, and then take the week-end off.

Students and parents assumed Thursday was a day off as well, although the Ministry of Education had before the vacation announced that classes would start on that day.
