Court remands toddler rape suspect into custody for 15 days

Dekernes Court of First Instance ordered on Monday remanding the suspect Ibrahim Mahmoud Ibrahim el-Refai, accused of kidnapping and raping a toddler in Demlash village, into custody for 15 days pending investigations.

Daqahliya security services transferred the suspect to Dekernes Court instead of Belqas Court fearing the angry villagers, while dozens of the 20-month old toddler’s relatives gathered outside Belqas Court amid high security presence.

Daqahliya security department was earlier notified by the mother of the toddler, that a 35-year old man abducted and raped her daughter, causing her severe vaginal bleeding.

The girl was taken to Belqas hospital for medical care and surgery, as she was in a bad health condition. A police report was filed and sent to prosecution for investigation.

The suspect was arrested while he was trying to escape. He admitted to committing the crime. He was remanded into custody for four days on Saturday.

Investigations showed that the suspect was known to police, as he was badly behaved and had frequent conflicts with his brothers.
