Czech delegation to visit Egypt next week

A high-level delegation from the Czech Republic, including the foreign minister and 15 heads of leading companies, will visit Cairo next week, Egypt’s foreign trade and industry minister said on Thursday.

During the visit, the two sides will discuss bilateral political ties and the establishment of joint investments between the two countries’ private sectors, said Mahmoud Issa, Egypt’s foreign trade and industry minister. He noted that a forum will be held during the visit which Egyptian businessmen are scheduled to attend to discuss investment opportunities in both countries.

Issa said during a meeting Thursday with Pavel Kafka, the Czech ambassador to Egypt, that a cooperation agreement would be signed between the Export Development Bank of Egypt and its Czech counterpart, in order to encourage investment and provide funding mechanisms and safeguards needed to increase trade between Egypt and the Czech Republic.

Issa said his talks with the Czech ambassador addressed the importance of completing the formation of the Egypt-Czech Business Council, which will play a major role in increasing bilateral trade and communication. He noted that the establishment of the council is underway.

The Egyptian minister also held talks with Sima Nakoy, the Pakistani ambassador to Egypt, to discuss strengthening economic relations between the two countries and increasing trade and joint investments between Egypt and Pakistan.

The minister said there is an urgent need for bilateral trade between the two countries and called for the establishment of an Egyptian-Pakistani economic council.

With regard to examining Pakistani commodities imported to Egypt, Issa said the ministry is committed to international standards, adding that it will discuss importing meat from Pakistan with the Agriculture Ministry. He added that the government will send missions to Pakistan to examine the meat before starting the import process.
