‘Dissident brothers’ to propose reconciliation in meeting with presidency Thursday

Amr Emara, coordinator of the coalition of Islamist youth, a dissident group from the Muslim Brotherhood, said he will submit the initiative made by the coalition for reconciliation between the Brotherhood and the state to the presidency on Thursday.

The pro-Brotherhood National Alliance to Support Legitimacy (NASL), according to Emara, awaits the response of the presidency ahead of forming a national dialogue council that would include several political groups.

“The executive bureau of the coalition held several meetings with a number of politicians over the past few days to call on them to take part in the initiative, including the leftist figure Abdel Ghaffar Shokr, who demanded some time to think about the initiative before making his decision about it, and George Ishaq, founder of Kefaya movement,” he added.

Omar Farouq, spokesperson of Wasat Party, according to Emara, called for a meeting for representatives of civil and revolutionary groups to consider the initiative and get proposals ahead of forming the reconciliation council.

“Several issues will be proposed during Thursday's meeting like offering strategies to rescue Islamist youth from extremism and getting them away from violent protests that are ongoing at several squares, as well as protecting them against joining terrorist groups abroad,” he said, adding that they will think about, along with presidency, the role that could be played by the Cabinet in the national reconciliation and mechanisms to carry it out.

All trade unions and political movements will be invited to take part in the initiative, he said, calling on all parties to take action to stop the bloodshed on the streets.

In related news, sources from NASL spoke with political groups of attempts for rapprochement to acknowledge their stance toward the initiative.

They added that they are dealing seriously with the initiative, although they do not find flexibility or official action towards reconciliation.
