Doctors Syndicate: 45% of doctors in public hospitals are on strike

Thousands of doctors continued their partial strike in public hospitals on Wednesday to protest the replacement of the medical salary scheme with a set of incentives and allowances.
 
Doctors Syndicate Assistant Secretary General Rashwan Shaaban said the strike is taking place in 85 percent of public hospitals, with 45 percent of hospitals in Cairo, 10 percent in Dakahlia, 20 percent in Minya, 50 percent in Qena, 30 percent in Beni Suef, 30 percent in Beheira, 40 percent in Alexandria, 40 percent in Giza, 60 percent in Marsa Matrouh, 60 percent in Damietta, 60 percent in Qalyubia, 65 percent in Gharbiya, 70 percent in Sharqiya, 70 percent in Sohag, 40 percent in Suez and 80 percent in Kafr El-Sheikh.
 
He said the Health Ministry is ordering hospitals directors to break the strike and called on doctors to file formal complaints against their superiors to refer them to disciplinary committees. “We received 11 verbal complaints and one official complaint,” he said.
 
Meanwhile, board member Dr. Ahmed Shawky denounced his referral to the public prosecutor on charges of inciting the strike. “The Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful strike,” he said.
