Domestic flights prices slashed by 20 percent to boost local tourism

Aviation Minister Hossam Kamal said prices for domestic flights will be reduced by 20 percent as a bid to encourage local tourism.

On Friday, the minister said the measure spares citizens seasonal price hikes which occur during feasts and peak times, especially to destinations such as Hurghada, Sharm al-Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan.

Kamal added that ticket rates for those destinations would remain the same throughout the year.

The minister added that besides these discounts, EgyptAir continues to offer subsidized flights to Hurghada and Sharm al-Sheikh.

Similar measures will be applied to Upper Egyptian destinations during winter. He urged private flight operators to follow suit.

Sameh al-Hefny, EgyptAir's CEO, said the discounts will begin next week.
