Driver killed, 2 injured by Beheira truck rollover

 

A driver was killed and two other people injured in a vehicle rollover on the desert highway at Beheira Governorate, on Monday.

The accident occurred on Cairo-Alexandria desert road at the kilometer 105, according to head of Beheira Security Directorate.

Investigations showed that the tire of the truck exploded, causing the driver to lose control, and the truck to roll over the roadside.

The 45 year-old driver, whose initials were given as N. H., passed away, while two companions were injured with bruises and abrasions. They were transferred to a hospital, a claim was filed over the incident and prosecutors took over investigation.

According to a Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) report for 2017, accidents on roads that year resulted in 3,747 deaths, 13,998 injuries, and 17,201 damaged vehicles.

The report claims the main cause of accidents to be the human factor at 78.9 percent of total cases, followed by vehicle defects at 14 percent, and environmental causes, such as road conditions, at two percent.
