Egypt condemns Manchester knife attack, expresses condolences

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement condemning the New Year’s Eve knife attack in Manchester.

According to the Washington Post, “a man wielding a knife attacked a couple in their 50s and a police officer at Manchester’s Victoria Station. Officers tackled the suspect, a 25-year-old man, who was arrested at the scene.”

Egypt expressed condolences to the incident’s victims, asserting that it stands with the UK’s government and people against all forms of violence and terrorism. Egypt also urged the international community to intensify efforts towards drying up sources of terrorism such as training camps and shelters

Coverage from AFP revealed that the suspect reportedly screamed “Allah” during the attacks. The incident occurred not too far from the scene of the May 2017 Manchester Arena bombing during an Ariana Grande concert which killed 22 people and left 139 wounded..
