Egypt, Huawei sign MoU for cloud computing, AI networks

Egypt’s Minister of Telecommunications Amr Talaat signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei for establishing cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) centers.

During Talaat’s participation in the activities of the mobile world congress (MWC) on February 25-28 in Barcelona, Spain, he said that Huawei would use the Telecom Egypt company’s data center to establish the $5 million cloud computing network, which would be the first in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Talaat clarified that Huwaei would complete the network, which will be the kernel of Egypt’s data industry, by the first quarter of 2020.

He added that the network would serve both individuals and corporate clients, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to improve their works.

Telecom Egypt CEO Adel Hamed said, “We look forward to presenting and developing innovative services, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing services, for several segments of clients.”
