Egypt launches ‘Survival Ships’ initiative against illegal immigration

Egypt’s Minister of Immigration and Egyptians’ Affairs Abroad Nabila Makram on Sunday launched the “Survival Ships” initiative from Fayoum, in cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority and the National Council for Women, to help raise awareness of the dangers of illegal immigration.

Makram said the initiative continues efforts to confront the issue, which includes preventing any boat used for illegal immigration from leaving Egypt.

The initiative aims to target roughly 150,000 citizens in Fayoum, and is divided into three different societal segments including   intermediary students, hotels and technical schools, the Minister added.

The Governor of Fayoum Ahmed al-Ansary stressed his governorate will provide the initiative with support and cooperation.
