Egypt police arrests suspects of LE19 million theft

Egypt police have arrested suspects in the theft of a money transfer vehicle holding roughly LE19 million, Interior Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

A technician and security guard reported that they were filling an ATM in Nasr City with banknotes, when the driver of the vehicle suddenly drove off with the remaining cash.

The vehicle held 29 boxes containing LE18.83 million.

Preliminary investigations found that there was a car waiting for the driver in the area, into which the thief emptied nine boxes, before leaving the first vehicle behind.

Detectives have identified seven suspects in the case, and five have been arrested, including the driver.

All arrested suspects confessed to the crime during police investigations.

The necessary legal measures have been taken regarding the incident, and the prosecution has begun to further investigate the case.

Efforts are underway to arrest the escaped fugitives, and the remaining sums of stolen money.
