Egypt receives Renaissance Dam studies’ technical offer from consulting firms

Water Resources Minister Hossam al-Moghazi announced that Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia received Friday from two French groups, BRL and Artelia, technical offers relating to studies on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Studies by the two consulting groups are scheduled to start studying the effect of the dam on Egypt and Sudan by mid-February.

Moghazi added in a press statement that the offer includes two sections. The first relates to Nile water flow to Egypt and Sudan and its impact on the electrical power generated by the existing dams in the two countries. The second identifies the effects of the dam on environmental, economic and social aspects in both countries.

The Egyptian National Tripartite Commission will study the technical offer, in preparation for a joint meeting between the three countries and representatives of the two companies, in accordance to the roadmap agreed on during the six-party meeting for the foreign and water ministers of the three countries in December 2015 in Khartoum, Sudan.
