Egypt, Saudi to discuss agricultural investment, import ban

Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Abd al-Moneam al-Banna will hold a meeting on Tuesday with his Saudi counterpart to discuss the future of agricultural investment in the two countries and the cancelation of the Saudi ban on importing Egyptian strawberries, pepper, onion and guava fruits.

Banna added that the meeting will tackle Saudi offers to invest in the field of animal and poultry production in Egypt. The Egyptian side is expected to highlight the high quality of Egyptian export products which comply with international standards on pesticide residues.

Banna pointed out that the ministry will impose penalties on companies that export products in violation of the new agricultural exports system that has been introduced.

In addition, the meeting will discuss wayt to facilitate investment in the agricultural sector to help inject further Saudi investments, particularly in new land reclamation projects.

Banna hailed Saudi companies’ agriculture investment, including the al-Rajhi Company’s plan to plant 25 thousand feddans in the Toshka project.
