Egypt seeks to legitimize status of its workers in Saudi Arabia

Minister of Manpower and Migration Ahmed Hassan al-Borai

has taken steps to determine the total number of Egyptians working in Saudi Arabia and their workplaces.

Borai told Al-Masry Al-Youm he will receive a report within the next few days, and this will enable the ministry to work on legitimizing the status of Egyptian workers in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has announced it will not extend visas for foreign workers beyond six years. Meanwhile, the Saudi Embassy in Egypt issued a statement saying the decision only concerns workers in the yellow and red categories (companies which employ mainly foreigners). A worker may switch to a company in the green category (companies that employ many Saudi nationals) without the permission of the company owner, it added.
