Egypt suspends schools on Thursday due to bad weather

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued an order to suspend the operation of schools and universities nationwide on Thursday, as the Egyptian Meteorological Authority’s (EMA) predicts severely unstable weather.

A report from the EMA anticipates the poor weather conditions to continue from Thursday until Saturday, the Egyptian cabinet’s spokesperson Nader Saad said Tuesday.

This decision is part of a larger government framework of readiness to take the necessary measures and immediately deal with the bad weather and its potential repercussions, Saad added.

Saad explained that the EMA report predicts heavy rains on the northern coasts and Lower Egypt, possibly reaching to the Suez Canal cities and the Gulf of Suez.

Thunder in some areas is expected, with possible floods in Sinai, the Guel of Suez, the Red Sea mountain and the southern parts of the country.

Winds will also be active in most regions, whipping up sand and dust storms. Saad urged citizens be careful in these abnormal conditions.
