Egyptian churches to form council to unify views on critical issues

A council of Egyptian churches will be formed bringing together representatives from all sects, Safwat al-Bayady, the head of the Evangelical sect, has said.

The council, the presidency of which will rotate, will work to forge a unified vision for all churches regarding several religious and secular issues.

Bayady said that the idea was put forward during the Prayer Week organized by the Middle East Council of Churches last month.

The council, which will be formed within the next few weeks, will seek to create a unified vision on several critical issues such as personal status law, the law on houses of worship and several other issues relating to citizenship, he said.
