Egyptian FM arrives in Sudan for talks with Burhan

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Monday to hold bilateral talks with Sudanese officials within the framework of strengthening relations between the two countries.

Upon his arrival at the Khartoum International Airport, Shoukry was received by Sudanese Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Omar Dahab, Director of Egypt’s Department in the Sudanese Foreign Ministry Ahlam Abu Zaid, Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan Hossam Essa and members of the Egyptian diplomatic mission.

The Foreign Minister is scheduled to hold a number of important meetings on Monday with the head of Sudan’s sovereign council and head of the transitional military council (TMC) Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk as well as the Sudanese Foreign Minister Asmaa Abdullah.

Sudan announced the formation of the new Sudanese government in accordance with the constitutional document signed on 17 August within the framework of the transitional arrangements.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said that this visit will establish a new phase of cooperation between the two countries during the transitional period in Sudan. The visit will contribute to Egypt’s solidarity with Sudan as it faces the challenges of the transitional stage.
