Rain hit a number of Egyptian provinces on Sunday as the Egyptian Meteorological Authority predicted intense rainfall in some regions.
In Alexandria, rain continued to fall for a third say, creating puddles in some streets but not affecting traffic or navigation at the coastal city’s ports.
Fathy Taha, acting director of the Alexandria seaport, said freighting and navigation activities were faring normally.
But pedestrians in Suez were hampered by puddles in the streets of the city, which has been experiencing heavy rain since early Sunday morning. Many families abstained from sending their children to school due to the weather.
A state of emergency was declared in Minya as a preventative measure to any possible flooding that might occur as heavy rainfall hit the province.
Ambulance service chief Ahmed Seif said extra ambulance vehicles have been deployed to deal with any accidents on highways.
In Sharm el-Sheikh, the unstable weather forced the closure of the resort’s seaport. Abdel Rahim Mostafa, director of the Red Sea Ports Authority, said the measure seeks to protect public and private property, as well as ensure maritime safety as sea wave heights reached 3-4 meters.
