Egyptian TV channels ignore Day of Anger protests

Most Egyptian satellite television channels ignored nationwide protests staged on Tuesday, in which tens of thousands of Egyptians took part.

State television showed lengthy broadcasts on developments and protests in Lebanon.

Talk shows aired on satellite TV channels timidly covered the protests, while privately-owned radio stations played national songs throughout the day on the occasion of the Police Day celebrations.

Egyptian TV Channel 1 screened a movie and other documentaries about historic events involving the police, and national songs. Police leaders featured as guests on the channel's shows.

Qatari satellite channels Al Jazeera and Al Jazeera Mubasher started a live video broadcast late yesterday on the protests staged in Abdel Moneim Riyad and Tahrir squares.

The Al Jazeera network attributed the delay in reporting to heated situations in Lebanon.
