Egypt’s ‘100 Million Healthy Lives’ initiative reaches 4.7 million women

Over 4.7 million Egyptian women have been examined under the “100 Million Healthy Lives” initiative since it launched in July 2019, Minister of Health Haya Zayed announced.

The Health Ministry’s spokesperson Khaled Megahed during Wednesday press statements said that over 2.4 million women were examined in the initiative’s second phase launched last November, which reached the governorates of Cairo, North Sinai, Red Sea, Kafr al-Sheikh, Ismailia, Suez, Monufiya, Beni Suef, Sohag, Aswan, and Luxor.

The initiative is sustainable, he proclaimed, aiming to examine and provide awareness to roughly 28 million women regarding reproductive health, family planning, healthier lifestyles, detecting noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure issues and obesity alongside the detection of risk factors for noncommunicable diseases and breast cancer.

Cairo governorate saw the second phase’s highest number of examiners, with Megahed adding that 1,395 medical teams with 1,175 health units participated across the governorates reached in the second stage.

He stressed the initiative would continue covering governorates from the first phase – namely South Sinai, Damietta, Port Said, Alexandria, Matrouh, Beheira, Fayoum, Assiut, and Qalyubiya, where 2.2 million women were examined.

According to Megahed, 1,321 medical teams at over 1,000 health units participated during the first stage.
