Egypt’s Transport Minister agrees to metro discounts for cancer patients

Transport Minister Hisham Arafat has approved a decision to give cancer patients discount prices for metro memberships.

The membership is renewed every three months, spokesman of the Metro Company Ahmed Abdel Hady said.

In order to receive the membership, each patient must submit a certified report of their illness from the hospital or oncology center they receive treatment from, properly stamped by the Ministry of Health or the Ministry of Higher Education, Abdel Hady added.

Abdel Hady announced in a press statement on Wednesday that the three-month membership card will cover 180 trips to 25 metro stations for LE22, while membership covering 180 trips over 25 stations is priced at LE27.

He added that one person will allowed to accompany the patient on their metro trips.

The statement read that this decision came as support for cancer patients, helping to reduce their suffering during the difficulties of treatment.

This comes part of the community role that the company is always provides for cancer patients. Back in April 2016, the Metro Company announced reduced prices and free passes for child cancer patients being treated at the 57357 Hospital.
