EU diplomats discuss Khaled Saeed case

The periodical meeting of EU ambassadors on Thursday addressed the case of Khaled Saeed, according to Marc Franco, head of the European Commission Delegation in Egypt.

Saeed’s case has received much attention after it was alleged that the young man was beaten to death by two policemen in Alexandria. The two officers in question have been detained on charges of assault and illegal arrest, though the prosecution insists Saeed’s death was not a direct result of the police officers’ actions.

“Saeed’s case was just one of 12 other issues that we have discussed,” Franco said, pointing out that they also discussed Egyptian-European economic, political and cultural relations, as well as Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.
