Fishers’ families call on Egypt’s Foreign Ministry to release detainees in Tunisia

Families of 14 Egyptians called on Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to release their detained sons in Tunisia’s Sfax Port after Tunisian police had arrested them over charges of illegally entering Tunisian waters in August.

The families claimed that “[their sons] are badly treated” in detention.

Chief of the Fishers Syndicate in Kafr al-Sheikh Ahmed Nassar said that his neighbor Mohammed Ahmed Zamer, one of the detained fishers, called him to ask for the intervention of the Egyptian government to release the fishers.

Zamer informed Nasser that the 14 fishers were heading to Malta Island by fishing boat before the Tunisian police arrested them.
