FJP website: Brotherhood teen dead in Damanhour clashes

A teenage boy died in clashes between angry residents of Damanhour and members of the Muslim Brotherhood on Sunday night.

Hundreds of residents of the Beheira Governorate capital marched to the Brotherhood office in Saa Square carrying clubs and clashed with the group’s members.

Fifteen-year-old Islam Fathy, whom the Freedom and Justice Party website said Sunday night belonged to the Muslim Brotherhood, died when he was hit in the head with a rock, and 60 others were injured.

Shortly after Fathy’s death, police fired teargas to disperse the fighting.

The residents said their children had told them Brotherhood members beat them, and so they went to fight with members of the Islamist group.

Nearing midnight Sunday, hundreds of Morsy supporters held unrelated demonstrations in front of mosques in Cairo and around the country, to support President Mohamed Morsy's decree last week to expand his presidential powers.
