Fog forces Cairo-bound flights to change course

Thick fog forced six flights heading to Cairo International Airport to change their direction. The weather improved two hours later.

Sources at the airport said the fog diminished visibility to less than 200 meters, and that planes arriving from Nairobi and Casablanca were diverted to Luxor, while flights coming from Abuja and Addis Ababa traveled instead to Sharm al-Sheikh.

Other flights taking off from Alexandria and Sharm al-Sheikh airports returned to their points of departure, sources said, while Air France flights heading to France saw a seven-hour delay due to weather conditions in France. Other Europe-bound flights departed as scheduled.

British airliners, meanwhile, reactivated London-Cairo flights after a four-day hiatus due to snow and bad weather.
