Four Egyptian universities listed among top 1000 universities worldwide

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar received a report from Essam Khamis, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research, on the rankings of the Egyptian universities on the 2018 Center for World University Rankings (CWUR)’s list.

The report points out the progress of four Egyptian universities on the list, including the universities of Cairo, Ain Shams, Mansoura and Alexandria.

Cairo University ranks 452nd, Ain Shams University 715th, Mansoura University 884th, and Alexandria University 903rd.

The CWUR classification for the top 1,000 universities is based on seven indicators, said Kamis.

The indicators include the quality of education which is measured by the number of university graduates who won major international awards, prizes and medals in relation to the size of the university. It’s also measured by the number of graduates who were employed in distinguished positions after graduation in international companies in relation to the size of the university.

Another criteria is the number and quality of scientific research papers, especially those published at global journals, according to Khamis.

Harvard University ranked first on the list of the CWUR for 2018-2019, followed by Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
