Gaza PM receives Malaysian counterpart in Gaza

Malaysian Prime Minister Mohamed Naguib arrived on Tuesday in the Gaza Strip, via the Rafah border crossing, heading a delegation that includes several figures and ministers.

Naguib is also accompanied by his wife, son and daughter.

The solidarity delegation, which includes 26 Malaysian officials, will meet with several officials in the Palestinian government presided by Ismail Haniyeh.

Naguib was received by Haniyeh, his wife, as well as several ministers and Hamas figures. After the visit of the Qatari Emir and his wife, the occasion marks the second public appearance of Haniyeh’s wife.

An official welcoming ceremony featured both the Palestinian and Malaysian national anthems.

The Gaza government described the Malaysian’s prime minister visit as historic, and renewed its calls for leaders of Arabic and Islamic countries to also visit Gaza.

Naguib said, in a press release, that he will discuss with Palestinian officials Gaza’s needs in terms of reconstruction and projects in several other sectors.
