German Ambassador: Germany did not offer to treat Mubarak

Egypt did not send Germany a request for the treatment of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, said German Ambassador in Cairo Michael Bock.

"Germany did not offer to treat [Mubarak], and Egypt did not submit a request for the treatment of [Mubarak] in Germany,” he said.

At a press conference on German investment in Egypt, Bock told reporters on Monday that, "No [German] companies will withdraw their investments from Egypt,” adding that these companies “will consider increasing their investments."

“Since the beginning of the events, the German Foreign Ministry warned German tourists against traveling to Egypt. However, I myself called [on the ministry] to remove this warning from its website, and it is expected to be removed within the next few hours,” he said.

With regards to German aid to Egypt, Bock said: “German aid is not handed over directly to the government. Rather, it is provided to areas of development such as water management, renewable energy sources and cultural development."

Bock praised the Egyptian uprising for being a peaceful revolution. He also praised the role of the Egyptian army and said that the fact that the country's affairs are now being managed by the armed forces could not be compared to any other country, since the Egyptian army was respected both inside Egypt and abroad.
