Gharbiya governer steeped in iftar scandal after ordering LE20,000 in catering

Governor of Gharbiya Major General Mohamed Naeem is under heat after organizing an iftar Monday for governorate security leaders and executive officials, which totaled LE20,000.

A governorate official told Al-Masry Al-Youm Tuesday that Naeem allegedly ordered the food from a luxurious restaurant.

Dozens of activists in Gharbiya filed a claim against the governor accusing him of squandering public money.

The incident comes after President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for austerity and rationalizing electricity consumption and called on officials to make donations to back the national economy.

Sisi had earlier announced that he would give up half of his salary and his property to support the Egyptian economy.
