Govt announces new price strategy for fresh milk

The ministries of agriculture and trade are expected today to issue new prices for fresh milk supplied by farms to UHT milk producers. Milk prices per kilo are anticipated to rise from LE2.40 to LE2.75 as a result of the move.

The decision was taken after farm owners complained about increasing international prices for cattle and other means of milk production.

"The government must help the farms or they’ll go out of business," said milk farm owner Abdel Qader el-Haraki.

According to Assistant Agriculture Minister Saad Nassar, the move aims "to improve the quality of milk sold on the market."
