Health Ministry: Clashes outside Israeli Embassy left 55 injured

Clashes between security personnel and protesters trying to break into the Israeli Embassy in Cairo on Saturday left 55 injured, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The incidents were sparked in response to an Israeli attack that killed six Egyptian security and military personnel Thursday on the Egyptian side of the border between the two countries.

An official from the Health Ministry told the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper that 14 of the injured were transferred to a hospital in Cairo and are still receiving treatment, while 41 were treated on spot by ambulances provided by the ministry.

The official added that a large number of people accompanying their injured relatives crowded the hospital, resulting in crowding that inhibited doctors from doing their jobs.

He went on to say that injured people should never be accompanied by more than one person, to help medical workers treat the injured more effectively.
