Heat wave expected in first few days of Ramadan

Chairman of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) Ahmed Abdel Aal anticipates a heat wave starting on Thursday until Tuesday, May 22. Weather temperatures are expected to rise between 4-7 degrees, causing very hot weather, especially in the daylight hours. More moderate weather is expected at night.

Thursday, the first day of Ramadan, will see a relative increase in temperatures. Moderate weather will prevail along the north coast. Hot weather is predicted in Cairo and Lower Egypt with more intense heat in Upper Egypt, particularly severe in daylight hours, Abdel Aal told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Fasting hours on the first day of Ramadan will be 16 hours long. Fajr Azan (Call to prayer), when fasting starts for Muslims, will be at 3:26 am. Iftar (Breaking fast) will be at 6:43 pm.

Earlier, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced the official working hours of bank employees in local banks during the month of Ramadan as of 9:30 am until 1:30 pm.
